“The Mexican Sensation” El Ligero is another veteran of the UK independent scene.
Ligero made his PCW debut on the very first PCW show, A New Beginning, in August 2011. He would soundly defeat Prince Mo Ameen that night and stun spectators with an incredible dive over the top rope to the outside. A chair became sawdust in the melee!
Fans would see Ligero's technical expertise was just as much to worry about as his aerial offense in October when he represented PCW against PBW's Noam Dar in a Submission match. After having his knee targeted for most of the match, Ligero unfortunately would have no choice but to tap out to Dar's kneebar. In spite of the loss, fans gave Ligero's gutsy performance a standing ovation after the match.
It was June 2012 when El Ligero's PCW performances truly captured the attention of the British scene once more when he clashed. with Dragon Gate regular, Akira Tozawa. Guild Wars would play host to the battle between these two incredible athletes with Ligero squeaking out the win in a match which was voted UK Match of the Year by readers of Fighting Spirit Magazine.
After a few disappointing losses over the summer, Ligero bounced back in tag team action that November when he teamed with Martin Kirby, collectively known as Project Lucha to defeat PCW Tag Team Champions, Fight Club. After a hard fought battle, the win would come via disqualification and as titles can't change hands this way, El Ligero left without his share of the tag team belts.
Back in singles competition in December, El Ligero would defeat international superstar, Zack Sabre Jr at Festive Fury 2.
Once the New Year rolled around, Project Lucha would ride again. With The Young Bucks making their way to Preston, Ligero and Kirby's challenge from that November was accepted and the duos engaged in a classic tag team encounter. The Young Bucks, Matt and Nick Jackson, would score the win.
In August at the 2nd anniversary show, El Ligero would sub for an injured Noam Dar and have an opportunity to claim the PCW Heavyweight Championship. In a 60 minute Ironman match, Ligero and the champion, Doug Williams would trade falls in an incredible encounter with Williams just edging out the victory with 5 falls to Ligero's 4.
Project Lucha would engage in another tremendous tag team encounter at Final Fight in October when they took on the duo of Dean Allmark and Japanese legend, Ultimo Dragon. They wouldn't score the win on this night but their performance impressed enough that they were granted a PCW Tag Team title shot against Team Single the following month at Supershow 3. Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful.
After Lionheart refused to grant Noam Dar another opportunity at the PCW Heavyweight Championship in December and issued an open challenge, Ligero answered. “The Mexican Sensation” would take the champion to the absolute limit but was eventually defeated after a Styles Clash from Lionheart who was attempting to send a message to AJ Styles.
In the first half of 2014, Ligero has already had high profile singles and tag encounters with the likes of Petey Williams, Low-Ki and reDRagon. And the year isn't over yet...
Ligero has scored big wins over newcomer, Charlie Garrett, Chikara's Ophidian and constant online nemesis, Mad Man Manson in the latter months of 2014.
