The team of Martin Kirby and El Ligero, collectively known as Project Lucha, first appeared together in PCW in late 2012.

The duo would challenge Fight Club for the PCW Tag Team titles at Invasion in November that year. Stunning PCW audiences who hadn't had the pleasure of seeing them team before, Project Lucha came within an eyelash of taking the company's doubles prize. It was only due to a deliberate disqualification that Fight Club retained the belts.

As news filtered throughout PCW that international tag team sensation The Young Bucks were coming to PCW, Martin Kirby lined himself and Ligero up to be the team that would get to face them. The PCW crowd agreed and the match was set for January 2013 at More Bang For Your Buck. The Young Bucks would defeat Project Lucha in what was dubbed one of the matches of the year by fans and critics alike.

Project Lucha would ride again in October at Final Fight. Teaming to take on the sensational tag team of Dean Allmark and Japanese legend, Ultimo Dragon, Kirby and Ligero would unfortunately be defeated despite an impressive showing.

On the 2nd day of Supershow 3, Project Lucha would be granted a tag team title shot against Rampage Brown and T-Bone but they were unable to wrest the belts away from the two gargantuans.

Project Lucha would also re-unite at Supershow 4 to take on ROH World Tag Team Champions, reDragon, in a non-title match. They would unfortunately be defeated. This would be the last time they would team to date.
